Will We See Justice in Our Lifetime?

Justice -- it's a word that's been on a lot of people's lips the past few weeks.

Injustice is everywhere but recently we witnessed it in awful and shocking boldness: a white cop firmly planting his knee in the neck of a black man ACCUSED -- not formally charged, not convicted, not sentenced-- just accused of forgery of a $20 dollar bill.

The man handcuffed on the ground -- George Floyd -- called out for mercy; bystanders called out for mercy. But none was given. Instead the officer kept the pressure on and his hand in his pocket.

Many are marching to push lawmakers and police departments to make changes and to convict the officers involved. (There were three other cops who stood by and watched Floyd slowly die.) There are also people --of which I am one-- posting educational and thought-provoking content online in the hopes of changing hearts and minds.

Still I can't help but wonder if we will truly see justice in my lifetime or anyone's lifetime.

     After all it says ...

                                    in Psalm 58

Solomon, Israel's wisest king, had a similar feeling as he pondered the state of the world:

    But there was some hope:

"God shall judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every activity and a time to judge every deed." -Ecclesiastes 3:16-17

What is God's justice like? In Psalm 98:8-9 The very thought of it caused David to celebrate

"Let the rivers clap their hands

That's what a just judge causes people to do because you know that your case will be fairly reviewed, and there will be fair resolution.

While Christians wait and watch for the Lord to intervene, what should we do?

As Christ followers,  we love what He loves which means we love truth and seek out justice, and we hate dishonesty and oppression.
