When you are dealing an adverse situation in yourk work life, be in college/grad school or on the job, it's best to get your priorities straight: While work is unavoidable part of our lives, we shouldn't be sold out to money, status and office politics.
Nothing is wrong with gain. Solomon, the wisest, richest man in the Bible, said in Ecclesiastes 2 v 24, "Nothing is better for a [wo]man than that [s]he should eat and drink, and that [her] soul should enjoy good in [her] labor. This also, I saw, was from God."
However as SBMWs, dedicating all your mental and physical energy to its pursuit would be a mistake. None of those things bring longterm happiness. Solomon reminds us even when we gain riches, we will still want more. "He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity," Ecclesiastes 5 v 10.
Now that we have some prespective, we can find our priorities. A Christian's first priority in anything should God. Jesus says in Matthew 5 v 16, "Let your light so Shine before men, that they may see your good workds and glorify your Father in Heaven." The Apostle Paul also said in Colossians 3 v 17, "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." On the job, in the classroom and in life, put forth a superior effort knowing that you are representing something much bigger than you.
A second priority would be what we talked about last week: using our God-given talents for God's will(see the archives). After these priorities, I welcome you to add our own goals, hopes, and dreams. Just remember your priorities!

After Reading, Meditate on This: What did Solomon say was the results of his pursuits of pleasure and his consuming focus on his job as King? How has my own pursuits for pleasure and focus on work affected me? What are my priorities? How does it measure up to Solomon the preacher's final conclusion?
If you have read this and you do not have a personal relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ the Son, your priority should be establishing a relationship with God. The Bible bids us all to "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you" Get down on your knees and pray the prayer posted on Monday's post.
